Experimental Time-Based Media Project - Brief Explanation & Ideas

Hello! In my previous blog, I have posted about Anne Frank's Diary recently. Now, I wish to explore on my final project assignment which is a Time-Based Media Project. It is also known as an "Installation Project". The theme that I chose for this arduous task is the "lessons learned from the World War II" where I have to relate this theme to my previous assignment that I have posted earlier on Anne's Diary.

My key ideas for this project is in relation to World War II. The reason why I chose this theme is because Anne's heart wrenching story was also related to World War II. So, I decided to focus my mind on this theme whereby she had also wrote about it in her diary. Why Not, Right? What lessons have we learnt from the World War II then? I have taken the liberty to elaborate what are the lessons learned from the said war rather than discussing the world war scenes proper. Then, I thought of changing my mind as it may be disturbing because as you all know, World War II was not a colorful memory as it was the most destructive war in all of history. Its exact cost in human lives is unknown but casualties in World War II may have totaled 50 million service personnel and civilians killed. It is my profound believe that what is prime consideration here is "what we have learnt from the said War" and I would like to urge the new generations to spare some time to think and ponder about World Wars that has happened then.

While I was exploring my time based media project, I came up with several ideas on how to go about dealing with this project.  My very first idea was to do a light up cassette. There are many functions for a light up cassette. For an example, you can transform the light up cassette to be vase to place flowers in it and it can also be a bedroom lamp and also we can place all our stationary items.

Later, I decided to change my idea because I realized that cassettes do not exist during the World War era. So, I couldn't choose that idea as this project has to be related to my first assignment. I believe that it won't be a suitable project to install later during installation process. I was so upset but that does not mean to be a stumbling block to pursue this task which I was assigned to undertake.

After a process of mind boggling and soul searching, I came up with my second idea where I decided to do something on a Vinyl Record. I was also thinking to do a card holder on the vinyl records itself as shown below. Then, several ideas triggered my mind such as to make a mini stand or more known as shelf to place our storybooks, magazines or even newspapers which is either a normal stand or it could also be attached to the wall.

Furthermore, I was provided with a valuable guidance and thoughtful inspirations from my lecturer, Miss Sue Jane where she has given me some advice and ideas on how to explore further to improvise and adopt my previous ideas that I have mentioned herein above.
